How Does the Dentist Use Botox?
July 22, 2021 10:10 pmDo you have fine lines or wrinkles around your forehead, eyes, nose, and mouth? Do you wish you didn’t? Botox® treatments smooth out these areas, giving you a more youthful appearance! You might associate Botox with a plastic surgeon or a dermatologist, but dentists use Botox, too! Here’s everything you need to know.
How Does Botox Work?
Botox works by blocking the nerves that contract your facial muscles. With the nerves blocked, your muscles temporarily (and safely) soften and relax. This muscle relaxation stops your face from moving in certain ways, so the wrinkles don’t appear. We inject Botox in places like between your eyebrows, next to your eyes, and on both sides of your mouth. It might take up to a week to see results, so if you don’t look exactly how you want right after, wait at least a week before scheduling a follow-up.
How often can I get Botox?
We recommend waiting at least a few months between Botox treatments. The effects usually last between 3-6 months. Over time, your facial muscles might learn to contract less. If this happens, you can go longer between injections.
What’s the recovery like?
After getting Botox, you might experience some swelling and slight bruising. Avoid exercise within the first 24 hours and keep your head elevated as much as you can. You should also not touch or rub your face too much right after an injection. Beyond that, there aren’t any special aftercare instructions!
