At first glance, it may seem strange to see a dental office that offers Botox treatments. However, dentists are incredibly knowledgeable when it comes to facial muscles, and any dentist who offers Botox must go through extensive training to offer Botox services that are safe and effective. Botox treatments are quick, and they can be added onto treatment plans for virtually any patient who wishes to smooth out the fine lines or wrinkles that they have around their eyes, nose, mouth, or forehead. What exactly does Botox do?
Botox is expertly injected into specific areas of the face, like next to the eyes, between the eyebrows, and on both sides of the mouth to reduce the appearance of crow’s feet, frown lines, and smile lines. From there, Botox blocks the nerves that contract muscles, which safely and temporarily paralyzes the muscles that cause wrinkles. Relaxing these muscles prevents the face from moving in certain ways, which helps prevent these wrinkles from appearing.
Does Botox require any downtime?
You may notice some minor bruising or swelling after your visit, but Botox treatments do not require any recovery time or special aftercare instructions. We do recommend that you keep your head elevated as much as possible and avoid exercising within the first 24 hours of receiving Botox. You will also want to resist touching or rubbing your face too much right after your treatment, as that can cause the filler to unintentionally move to a different area.
How often can you get Botox?
The effects of Botox last anywhere from three to six months, so we usually recommend waiting a few months before getting additional treatments. Over time, patients can often wait even longer in between Botox treatments. It can take up to a week to really see all of the results from your Botox treatment, so you may not look exactly how you want right away, but we can always schedule a follow-up visit if you’re still not completely satisfied with your results.Contact Us
